Mystic Deck

Winchester, MA

Architect: Shun Kanda

This deck overlooks the Upper Mystic Lake, twenty feet from the water’s edge. The forms and elements draw from the rich aesthetic of traditional Japanese gardens. The deck is attached to an early 20th century Arts & Crafts style stucco house. The rich natural materials of teak, redwood, bronze, glass and stone seem to grow from the surrounding shore side landscape. Lanterns are built into the redwood frame and stucco walls providing a subtle evening glow. Three organically shaped redwood coffee tables can be interlocked to form one large table. The locally gathered field stones and granite steps anchor the deck to the shore front garden.
