Pezzella House

The Pezzella House

R. Caruso & J. Pezzella collaborative design.

The house is located near Rye (NH) Harbor and Beaches.

Working with owner Jefferson Pezzella, an experienced builder and cabinetmaker, we designed a complete make over for this 1970’s developer’s pre-fab split level using the same foundation. Jefferson meticulously value engineered the project for the most cost effective and maintenance free options. As a result the exterior is panelized using Hardiboard panels with aluminum reveals with just enough vertical cedar siding to add warmth at the entry, dormer and overhanging bay.

The form is that of a traditional New England salt box that has been fragmented and reassembled. The street elevation presents a shape and scale that is typical of other houses in the area. The grade drops steeply at the rear allowing for many windows and three decks that terrace down to meet the ground facing a wetland. The house features generous multilevel decks and lots of windows to take advantage of its proximity to the nearby ocean breezes.
