Oak Bluffs Cottage

This 650sf Cottage was designed by noted Boston Architect Jeremiah Eck. Oak Bluffs zoning allowed for the house to be built on the footprint of the single car garage that had been “grandfathered” in. Detailing for the house is inspired by historic Cottage City located across the street from the rear of the cottage.

Oak Bluffs Cottage, Built in 1993

I moved to oak bluffs, squatting in the owner’s 19th century uninsulated summer house for the fall & winter of 1992-93. The house was built using some of the amazing local talent from the island including a Wampanoag Woman Excavator and a couple of master carpenter friends who happened to be caretaking a meditation retreat building in menemsha. through the brother & sisterhood of builders on the island I was able to visit spike lee’s summer house also under construction at the time.
